MMC (VSFF Connector)

Overview

MMC Connector

The MMC connector (Miniature Multifiber Connector) was specifically developed as a high-performance Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) solution for high-density fiber optic cabling. It addresses the growing demands of modern data centers, telecommunications networks, 5G infrastructures, and FTTx environments. The MMC connector supports migration to 400G, 800G, 1.6T, and, in the near future, 3.2T.

The MMC connector features an exceptionally compact form factor, even smaller than that of established multifiber connectors such as MPO. This allows more fibers to be accommodated within the same panel footprint and ensures efficient use of the available space in patch panels and active IT hardware. In addition, the push-pull mechanism enables secure insertion and removal, even at maximum port density.

Features

– As a VSFF multifiber array connector, the MMC is equipped with Tiny-MT (TMT) ferrules and is available in configurations with 1×12, 2×12, or 1×16 fibers.
– The ferrules feature a 250 µm pitch, support both singlemode and multimode fibers, and are manufactured to Elite-grade specifications.
– An 8° APC polish ensures very high return loss values of up to 60 dB in singlemode operation.
– Maximum insertion loss is 0.35 dB for both singlemode and multimode fibers, meeting the requirements of IEC 61300-3-4.
– The mechanical design supports at least 500 mating cycles while maintaining consistently stable optical performance.
– Robust housing with central cable retention, integrated strain relief, and bend protection for round cables with diameters ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 mm.
– Operating temperature range from −40 °C to +75 °C.
– The MMC connector meets the requirements of Telcordia GR-1435.
